As the celebration of Nowruz approaches and the first anniversary of the massacre of the “Peshmerga” family on March 20, 2023, in the city of Jenderes, after breaking their fast yesterday, the city’s residents were shocked by the news of the killing of the Kurdish youth Ahmad Khaled Ma’mo/Madeh family /16/ years old. The people gathered to show solidarity with his family in a protest in front of the “Military Police” building. The Military Police announced the arrest of the murderer, named “Yamen Ahmed Ibrahim,” from Sinjar district – Idlib, affiliated with the militias of “Nour al-Din Zanki.” Smoke bombs were used and shots were fired in the air to disperse the protesters, and The martyr was buried this morning in the presence of thousands at his final resting place in the cemetery of the village of “Hamam,” from which the family originates, amidst feelings of sadness, anger, and condemnation towards this heinous crime.
After the victim’s father had fired the killer from his job at his bakery some time ago, the perpetrator committed his crime with premeditation and planning by slaughtering the victim with knife and throwing his body into “Haj Ibrahim” water well on the road to Tell Sulor – south of Jenderes, near the house that his family had taken over, as The circumstances of the crime suggest the involvement of other individuals.
This crime is part of a context of hate speech and a culture of crime that has affected Afrin and its Kurdish inhabitants – the indigenous population since it was occupied in 2018 by the Turkish army and the so-called “Syrian National Army” militias affiliated with the Syrian Coalition – Brotherhood and loyal to Turkey. This has turned into a common culture and daily behavior among the armed groups and their families, as well as their wide support base of newcomers. Crimes are repeated for trivial reasons in a state of outlaw, armed chaos, lack of security, impunity, and a disregard for shedding Kurdish blood and seizing their properties, guided by the hostile racist policies and fatwas of the “revolution’s” sheikhs and jurists.
The silence of international, regional, and Syrian communities regarding the violations and crimes committed in Afrin, in addition to the continuation of the Turkish occupation and the presence of mercenary militias and terrorist organizations, as well as the exacerbation of the Syrian crisis without finding a political solution… Are factors that lead to more complications and further crimes.
While we condemn the murder of the youth “Ma’mo,” we call on the international community and Syrian and Kurdish national forces to hold Turkey responsible for the situation in Afrin as an occupying state. In partnership with them, we hold the Syrian Coalition – Brotherhood and its interim government responsible as allies who adopt the responsibility of the “Syrian National Army.”
