About the earthquake in Syria and Turkey

An appeal

Translated from Arabic

In the early hours of February 6, 2023, a massive earthquake struck northwestern Syria and southern Turkey. Its impact reached most of the neighboring countries and left a terrible disaster, as preliminary statistics show more than two thousand victims in both Syria and Turkey, and this number is likely to rise catastrophically, and there are many times the number of wounded and injured, in addition to the destruction of entire neighborhoods in more than one city has driven tens of thousands of citizens from their homes.

Twelve years of destruction, devastation and daily tragedies experienced by our Syrian people with all its national components have resulted in a lack of resources for development, services and aid. The earthquake disaster occurred this winter when the bitter cold, stormy weather and occupation conditions exacerbated the suffering of our people in the affected areas, including Afrin and its surroundings, especially in Jenderes district.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and wish the injured and wounded a speedy recovery. At the same time, we appeal to all international bodies, agencies, and institutions to intervene quickly to save what can be saved in the affected areas, provide urgent assistance to the injured, compensate those affected and provide adequate shelter to those whose homes collapsed and were damaged.

We also appeal to our people to fully comply with the rules of public safety under such circumstances and in anticipation of an emergency.

– Mercy to the martyrs.

– Quick recovery for the wounded.
